NYVC 2024
PROGRAM
The 2024 National Young Violists Competition (NYVC) will take place at the Conservatory of Boulogne-Billancourt, 22 rue de la Belle Feuille - 92100 Boulogne-Billancourt, from November 28 to 30.
This year, the NYVC features two categories:
-
DEM & CPES (French and foreign students studying in France, age limit 26)
-
Bachelor's degree (French and foreign students studying in France and neighboring countries, age limit 28)
Note : Competition for the Bachelor's degree will take place on 29th morning (9 am - 1 pm) for the first Round and 30th Afternoon (3 pm) for the Final Round. We will contact you few days before for more details.

1. DEM & CPES Category Program :
1ST ROUND
- J.S. BACH: Sarabande and Gigue from Suites No. 2 or 3 or 4 for solo cello (Billaudot edition)
And
- P. HINDEMITH: Sonata for solo viola Op. 25 No. 1, 1st and 2nd movements (choice of editions)
2ND ROUND
- HOFFMEISTER: Étude No. 5 (in G major, theme and variations)
And
Choice of :
- ENESCO: Concertstück for viola and piano (choice of editions)
- SCHUMANN: Märchenbilder, 1st and 2nd movements or 1st and 3rd movements (choice of editions)
- BRAHMS: Sonata in E flat Major, Op. 120 No. 2, 2nd movement (choice of editions)
- SCHUBERT: Sonata for Arpeggione and piano, 1st movement (choice of editions)
2. Bachelor Category Program (Open to neighboring country):
1ST ROUND
- RODE: One study to choose from 6, 19, 24
And
- Corentin APPARAILLY: "Ultima Verba" for solo viola (click here to buy the score)
2ND ROUND
Your choice of:
- BOWEN: Sonata Op. 18, 1st movement (choice of editions)
- CLARKE: Sonata, 1st movement (choice of editions)
- BRAHMS: Sonata Op. 120 No. 1, in F minor, 1st movement (choice of editions)
- SHOSTAKOVICH: Sonata Op. 147, 2nd movement (choice of editions)
And
Your choice of :
- BARTÓK: Viola Concerto, 2nd and 3rd movements (choice of editions)
- HINDEMTIH: Der Schwanendreher, 3rd movement (choice of editions)
- PROKOFIEV: 4 pieces from Romeo and Juliet - Introduction, The young Juliet, Dance of the Knights, Mercutio (choice of editions)
