Welcome to the Young Violists Competition (YVC) page! Here you will find information about the next competition organized by the French Viola Society.

This year, the YVC will take place from Thursday, November 26 to Saturday, November 28, 2026, at the Maurice Ravel Municipal Conservatory of Paris's 13th Arrondissement. We warmly thank viola teachers Alix Gauthier, Yaël Ménassé-Thlang, and Renaud Stahl, as well as the Conservatory, for hosting this event.

Once again this year:

​

• The Bachelor's category is open to participants from across Europe, including the United Kingdom and Switzerland.

• The competition schedule and performance order will be available directly on the Society’s website.

• A Young Violists’ Prize will be awarded by all participants to one candidate in the Bachelor's category on the afternoon of Saturday, November 28.

• Don't miss the Jury Members’ Concert on the evening of Friday, November 27!

• Registration fees are €35, with a reduced fee of €20 for each additional child from the same family.

History :

The National Young Violists Competition was founded by the association Les Amis de l'Alto more than forty years ago and has been supported by generations of violists. The National Competition for Very Young Violists has also enjoyed great success since its creation in 2018.

 

In 2024, Les Amis de l'Alto merged with the French Viola Society in order to bring together and support the projects of all violists in France. Since then, the competition has been organized by the French Viola Society.

In 2025, the National Competition for Young and Very Young Violists was renamed the Young Violists Competition (YVC). It now encompasses all categories, from the first years of musical training through to the Bachelor's level.
