The Bachelor Category of the 2026 Young Violists Competition (Concours des Jeunes Altistes) offers an exceptional opportunity for the most advanced young violists to perform, compete, and connect with peers from across Europe.

Organized by the French Viola Society (Société Française de l'Alto), this category is open to students currently enrolled in Bachelor's (Licence) degree programmes at higher music education institutions. In addition to French conservatoires and universities, applications are welcomed from students studying throughout Europe, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, reflecting the competition's growing international reach.

A Platform for Emerging Professionals

Designed for young musicians preparing for professional careers, the Bachelor Category of the competition challenges participants to demonstrate both technical excellence and artistic maturity before a distinguished jury of internationally respected violists.

More than a competition, it is an opportunity to gain valuable stage experience, receive expert feedback, and perform alongside some of the most promising young violists of the next generation.

Awards and Performance Opportunities

In addition to the distinction of becoming a laureate of one of France's leading competitions for young violists, the Bachelor Category offers several rewarding opportunities.

The competition will award financial prizes, concerts, and/or masterclass opportunities to the laureates. Beyond the awards, the competition offers something equally valuable: visibility before an international jury, recognition within the professional viola community, and an opportunity to build connections that can lead to future artistic collaborations and concert engagements.

Key Dates

The 2026 Young Violists Competition will take place from 27 to 28 November 2026 at the Maurice Ravel Municipal Conservatory in Paris, 13th arrondissement.

The program is online, and applications for the Licence Category will be open from september 1st.
